Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
On April 28th & 29th, 2026, California LTAP hosted a 2-part training on the benefits of Mini & Modular Roundabouts, presented in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Caltrans Division of Local Assistance (DLA), Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), and the cities of Modesto and San Diego.
This 7-hours of presentation and Q&A showcase how these roundabout configurations represent a low-cost, quick construction, and traffic calming solution that will be competitive in the upcoming local Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Cycle 13 call for projects, anticipated in late May or early June of 2026.

A roundabout is an intersection with a circular configuration that safely and efficiently moves traffic.
Roundabouts feature channelized, curved approaches that reduce vehicle speed, entry yield control that gives right-of-way to circulating traffic, and provide a counterclockwise flow around a central island that minimizes conflict points.
The net result of lower speeds and reduced conflicts at roundabouts is an environment where crashes that cause injury or fatality are substantially reduced.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
— Robert Brady
