CALTAP manages an equipment inventory for free agency loan-out on a monthly basis

Equipment Loan Program

Our Equipment Loan Program offers local agencies a chance to "borrow" safety or test gear for up to 30-days free of charge. 

Our Equipment Loan Program offers provides loans of several pieces of equipment to local agencies and contractors across the State of California. The program is designed to provide equipment, at no cost, to local agencies to assist them reach California's goals of fostering a culture of road safety, ultimately saving lives and promoting responsible driving behavior.

This program allows local agencies to access new technologies without having to make expensive purchases. It also allows local agencies to test out a piece of equipment in order to determine if a purchase is warranted. Most importantly, it allows local agencies to meet FWHA standards and regulations just as easily as agencies with larger budgets and staffs and allows them to accomplish these tasks with up-to-date and innovative tools.

How Does the Equipment Loan Program Work?

  1. Complete and sign the Equipment Loan User Agreement. Please ensure all required fields are filled out accurately to avoid delays in processing. 

  2. Email the completed and signed form to admin@caltap.org.

  3. Upon receipt of the completed form, CALTAP staff will review your request and contact you to coordinate the loan. If available, CALTAP will arrange the shipment via FedEx or a pickup at the address listed below. If the requested equipment is not immediately available, you will be placed on a waitlist and provided with an estimated shipping date.

  4. Before shipment or pickup, you may be asked to confirm the loan period, shipping details, and the staff member responsible for the equipment during the loan term.

  5. Once the equipment has been shipped, you will receive a tracking number for the package.

  6. Upon receipt, please inspect the package and verify that all equipment, accessories, and supporting materials are included and in proper working condition. Any missing items, damage, or operational issues should be reported immediately.

  7. During the loan period, your agency is responsible for the proper care and assumes responsibility for any loss, theft, or damage that occurs while the equipment is in your possession.

  8. If additional time is needed, please contact CALTAP before the return due date to request a loan extension. Extensions are subject to equipment availability and approval.

  9. At the end of the loan period, please repack the equipment securely and include all accessories and components originally provided.

  10. Return the equipment by the loan agreement date to the following address:

  4. Confirm loan term & location
  5. We pay to ship to your agency
  6. We send you tracking details
  7. You confirm receipt, contents
  8. Deploy gear; assume all liability
  9. Contact us to extend loan period
  10. Repackage for return shipping
  11. You pay to ship to our facility
  12. Coordinate return with us
  13. Provide us tracking details
  14. Return by end of loan period
