Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
The USDOT has set up an online Dashboard to simplify access and awareness of discretionary grant opportunities that can help communities meet their transportation infrastructure needs.
This dashboard also identifies grant that have rural or tribal set-asides and match funding waivers, and even includes federal grant programs from outside the DOT that may be of interest to rural communities.
This new tool is spotlighted in a recent webinar that explains how to search for and find grant opportunities depending upon the project, organization, and match requirements. You can view the recording here using the access password: w0=B$P9$
The DOT Discretionary Grants Dashboard is updated weekly and a grant applicant toolkit is also in the works to help rural communities harness its capabilities.
The definition of "rural" vs "non-rural" varies across the USDOT, with at least a dozen programs distinguishing between these two classifications using different criteria.
To find out if your community can be classified as rural, check-out the DOT's Rural Funding Elibility Map or direct your questions to the respective program office or rural@dot.gov.
The DOT Navigator is another resource to help communities understand the best ways to apply for grants, plan for, and deliver transformative infrastructure projects and services.
It provides general information to develop grant applications and understand frequently required documents, provides contacts to DOT regional & field offices, and offers a searchable menu of technical assistance resources.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
— Robert Brady
