SS4A for Rural & Tribal Applicants

Posted: 4/18/2023

WEBINAR: April 24, 2023, 12:30PM - 1:30PM PT [CLOSED]

The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. The FY2023 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for SS4A grants is currently live on Grants.gov and open for applications through July 10, 2023.

ROUTES & Thriving Communities teams are partnering to host this funding webinar for rural and tribal communities, where participants will learn how the SS4A grant program can support planning, infrastructure, behavioral, and operational initiatives that are designed to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets involving all roadway users.

The SS4A program supports Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s National Roadway Safety Strategy and the Department’s goal of significantly reducing serious injuries and deaths on our nation’s roadways.

This webinar features introductory remarks from departmental leadership, an overview of the SS4A program, and Q&A. Guest speakers include:

  • Arlando Teller, Assistant Secretary for Tribal Affairs, USDOT
  • Mariia Zimmerman, Strategic Advisor for Technical Assistance, USDOT
  • Paul Teicher, SS4A Program Manager, USDOT

The ROUTES Program

Rural Opportunities to Use Transportation for Economic Success (ROUTES) is an initiative to address disparities in rural transportation infrastructure by developing user-friendly tools and information, aggregating DOT resources, and providing technical assistance.

The ROUTES initiative aims to ensure rural transportation infrastructure’s unique challenges are considered in order to meet priority transportation goals of safety, mobility, and economic competitiveness.

Thriving Communities

Through the Thriving Communities Program, the USDOT selects and funds Capacity Builder teams to provide deep-dive technical assistance, planning, and capacity building support to under-resourced and disadvantaged communities across the U.S.

These teams help ensure communities have the tools and organizational capacity to comprehensively plan for and deliver quality infrastructure and community development projects that enable their neighborhoods to thrive.
