Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, and equitable mobility for all.
Originating in Sweden in the 1990s, the Vision Zero approach recognizes that people make mistakes, so road systems and their related policies should be designed to ensure those mistakes don't result in severe injuries or fatalities.
Part of FHWA's Every Day Counts collection of state-based innovations, Nighttime Visibility for Safety focuses on countermeasures that improve nighttime visibility to safely connect people to their community and essential services.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
