New FHWA Pavement Resilience Website

Posted: 12/21/2023

FHWA recently launched its new Resilient Pavements website.

This site explores key pavement resilience definitions and climate stressors, as well as ongoing FHWA research and available resources to increase the knowledge and deployment of pavement resilience considerations and strategies.

With increased interest in pavement resilience and advances to the state of practice on the horizon, FHWA has placed significant effort in supporting education and deployment through outreach. This new site contains conference presentations, webinar recordings, and other material that underscore this commitment.

Since the foundation of the state of practice for pavement resilience—as well as the future directions in the field—are built upon research, deployment, and educational activities, the Resilient pavementse site includes case studies, research publications, and technical briefs.

This new site serves as a resource for those with emerging interest in the practice, and those that are fully established, as this resource will be continuously updated as the field grows.

Pavement Resilience

Resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, and adapt to changing conditions, plus withstand, respond to, and recover rapidly from disruption.

Asphalt pavements are strong, flexible, and can adapt to changing conditions. Their speed of construction allows roads to be repaired quickly in the event of a natural disaster.

Together, the design and application of asphalt pavements contribute to the resilience of surface transportation networks throughout the U.S.
