Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
WEBINAR: December 7, 2023, 11:00AM - 1:00PM PT [CLOSED]
The latest in their Innovation Webinar Series, Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is hosting a free webinar on their research to develop a network of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for highway incident response.
MassDOT researchers examined the potential of developing a UAS network for highway incident response by starting with an analysis of in-state traffic incidents between 2013 and 2019, identifying fire, environmental/hazmat, and roadway/traffic incidents as most likely to benefit from UAS deployment.
They then reviewed what types of drones would best make-up a UAS network—with a focus on “drone-in-a-box”—and assessed how such a network could help in emergency response. Three state agencies were interviewed on their UAS usage and the project team forwarded thier research results (and recommendations) to MassDOT for developing their own UAS network for incident response.
You can download the team's research report and/or 2-page summary.
