Rural Safety Countermeasures

Posted: 10/31/2023

WEBINAR: November 1, 2023, 10:00AM - 11:30AM PT [CLOSED]

The National Center for Rural Road Safety (NCRRS) and NLTAPA Safety Work Group are hosting a free 90-minute webinar on Recently Released Rural Countermeasure Resources, which focuses on two rural/tribal road safety resources:

  • Highway Safety Behavioral Strategies for Rural & Tribal Areas – This BTSCRP report focuses on countermeasures and strategies to promote safer decisions by road users (behavioral countermeasures) as well as resources for safer roads—like engineering or maintenance practices that improve safety, and safer speeds. The report offers guidance on how behavioral countermeasures work and the resources to identify, select, and adapt them for use in your community.

  • Traffic Safety Toolbox: Addressing Speeds – Created by the University of Vermont in partnership with VTrans, this toolbox can assist planners, road superintendents, and local officials in implementing countermeasures for speeding in rural villages and town centers. Though initially created for Vermont, these tools are readily transferable to other rural states as well.
