Road Safety Champion

A nationally-recognized “Roadway Safety 101” training series for professionals who aren't safety experts

RSCP: Traffic Incident Management

The National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Training Certificate is a self-paced online training program that teaches best practices for safe and efficient roadway incident response. It is offered by the Responder Safety Learning Network (RSLN).

Through ten interactive modules, participants learn key TIM concepts including scene safety, vehicle positioning, emergency lighting, incident command, hazard response, and quick clearance strategies to improve responder safety and reduce secondary crashes.

This course is part of the Road Safety Champion Program (RSCP), a nationally recognized “Roadway Safety 101” certification training for professionals in transportation, public health, and first responder agencies who support roadway safety but are not safety specialists.

RSCP includes seven core modules plus career-focused pathways in Maintenance & Construction, Planning & Engineering, Public Health, and First Responder. By completing all seven core modules and one complete pathway, participants become eligible to receive their Road Safety Champion Certificate. A full list of RSCP training modules can be found at the National Center for Rural Road Safety.

"Traffic Incident Management" is the fourth of seven modules for the RSCP Maintenance & Construction pathway and the fourth of six modules for the RSCP First Responder pathway. Complete all seven core modules plus one full pathway to receive your Road Safety Champion Certificate.
