Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional

California Invests $2.5B in Transportation Projects

The California Transportation Commission (CTC) recently approved nearly $2.5B in funding for over 150 new projects that seek to improve safety on the state highway system and strengthen infrastructure resiliency.

Nearly $547M of that is from the federal Infrastructure Investment && Jobs Act (IIJA) and $736M from California’s Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), also known as the Road Repair & Accountability Act of 2017. The remaining $1.1B comes from the State Highway Account, the state’s general fund, plus other state and federal transportation funding programs.

Funded Projects Include:

  • $257M to build a network of mobility hubs in southwest LA County
  • $99M to replace the Whiskey Creek Bridge on State Route 299 in Shasta County
  • $64M to restore pavement & upgrade safety elements in Riverside County
  • $60M to build a new interchange on State Route 156 in Monterey County
  • $6.7M to widen sidewalks & add high-visibility crosswalks in Santa Barbara

Our transportation team is continuing to prioritize benefits for all Californians with bold infrastructure investments that will connect communities and boost our economy,” said Toks Omishakin, secretary of the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA). “These investments will improve safety, support economic growth and strengthen the transportation networks Californians rely on every day.

The 13-member California Transportation Commission (CTC) is responsible for programming and allocating funds for the construction of highway, passenger rail, transit and active transportation improvements throughout California.

CTC advises and assists CalSTA and the state legislature in formulating and evaluating policies and plans for California’s transportation programs.
