Subsurface Utility Engineering Essentials

Posted: 7/6/2026

TRAINING: August 6, 2026, 8:00AM - 9:30AM PT

This 90-minute webinar provides an overview of the agreed-upon principles and procedures for conducting utility investigations.

Subsurface utility engineering (SUE) is a practice that focuses on mapping and documenting existing utility facilities to reduce risks during the project delivery process.

It is critical to begin collecting existing utility data in the initial stages of project development. This approach facilitates a thorough utility conflict analysis and identifies strategies that maximize benefits. Using data collected, prioritize avoiding or protecting existing utility infrastructure, or when necessary, relocations.

Presenters will also review industry guidelines from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), including the updated ASCE/UESI/CI 38-22.

  • Explain how utility investigations can be integrated into project delivery
  • Describe the four quality levels &utility investigation methods
  • Describe how SUE can help to reduce project risks of delay & unanticipated costs
