WEBINAR: July 23, 2026, 10:00AM - 11:00AM PT
Join the Active Transportation Resource Center for an overview of key changes in the recently released California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD) 2026, the first major revision of the manual since 2012.
This webinar highlights changes to traffic signs, pavement markings, and traffic signals on roadways, including in temporary traffic control zones (work zones), in school areas, in the vicinity of railroad and light-rail transit grade crossings, and on bicycle facilities.
Topics covered include pedestrian signs, non-vehicular signs, crosswalk markings, colored pavements, marking sidewalk extensions, bicycle signals, pedestrian signals, pedestrian hybrid beacons, rectangular rapid flashing beacons, flagger control, detectable edging for pedestrians, bicycle lane closures/detours, shared-use path closures/detours, circular intersection and roundabout closures impact on bicyclists and pedestrians, school crossing signage and supervision, pathway and sidewalk grade crossings, bikeway treatments and other elements essential for safer active transportation.
Learn what’s new, why it matters, compliance of existing devices, target compliance dates, and how agencies can bring non-compliant devices on existing roadways into compliance with CA MUTCD 2026.
Presenters:
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices specifies standards for how traffic signs, signals, and road markings are designed, installed, and used.
MUTCD is used by state/local agencies and private construction firms to ensure traffic control devices comply with national standards.
The Active Transportation Resource Center provides technical assistance, training, and resources to support the development and implementation of active transportation projects, particularly those funded by the Active Transportation Program.
ATRC helps ATP applicants, recipients, and others to increase safe walking and bicycling for all Californians and work towards our state’s mobility, safety, equity, environmental and health goals.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
— Robert Brady
