Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
On May 14, 2026, USDOT and FHWA announced an amendment to the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the FY26 Bridge Improvement Program (BIP) that aligns with current administration and department policies and priorities, and provides a process for FY2025 cycle applications to amend their applications.
Bridge Project Grants under BIP are available for bridges with total eligible project costs up to $100M, with minimum grant awards of $2.5M and maximum grant awards up to 80% of the total eligible project cost.
Planning Project grants are also available for bridges with maximum awards at 80% total eligible project costs.
Eligible Applicants:
Submit applications responsive to this NOFO for consideration by June 15th, 2026
for Planning applications and June 29th, 2026 for Bridge Project applications
The Bridge Improvement Program is a competitive, discretionary program that focuses on existing bridges to reduce the overall number of bridges in poor condition, or in fair condition at risk of falling into poor condition.
The BIP also expands applicant eligibilities to create opportunity for all levels of government to be direct recipients of program funds.
