Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
The American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the National Steel Bridge Alliance (NSBA) have jointly released two new steel bridge collaboration publications.
The Specification for Structural Duplex Stainless Steel Bridge Plate Materials offers a single unified set of guide specifications developed for duplex stainless steel plate girder bridges. Based on the framework of AASHTO Materials Specification M 270M/M 270 (ASTM A709/A709M), the guide establishes the material requirements for duplex stainless-steel plates used in bridge construction.
The Specification for Design of Structural Duplex Stainless Steel Bridges provides guidance for I-girder bridge superstructures fabricated from duplex stainless steel. While focused on I-girder bridges, the provisions may be adapted for other bridge types by considering the distinct buckling behavior and increased flexibility of duplex stainless-steel members.
Both publications are available free of charge at the AASHTO Store
AASHTO is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association representing highway and transportation departments with the goal to foster the development, operation, and maintenance of an integrated national transportation system.
AASHTO works to educate the public and key decision-makers about the critical role that transportation plays in securing a good quality of life and sound economy for our nation.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
