Understanding Economic Statistics

Posted: 4/27/2026

WEBINAR: May 12, 2026, 1:00PM - 2:30PM PT

The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is hosting a free webinar on “Understanding Economic Statistics From the U.S. Census Bureau” to explore tools for understanding economic trends.

This session includes presentations from U.S. Census Bureau staff on the Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES) and the Economic Census. Launched in 2024, the AIES consolidates seven annual surveys into one streamlined nationwide data set on business earnings, online sales, costs and inventory, investments, and local revenue. The Economic Census, conducted every five years, provides comprehensive statistics at the national, state, and local levels.

Learning Objectives:

  • Availability of estimates on revenues, expenses, payroll, and employment
  • Applications of AIES data for understanding market trends and economic conditions
  • Use of the Economic Census as a benchmark for current economic activity
  • New data content introduced in the 2022 Economic Census
  • Modern data access tools, enhanced visualizations, and accelerated release schedules

This webinar is part of SCAG's "Toolbox Tuesdays" program, which provides training on a range of practical skills and knowledge for local planning practitioners, including training in the use of technology and education for practical approaches to timely issues
