Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
On March 4, 2026, Caltrans hosted a free webinar explaining how roundabouts can enhance traffic safety and flow by reducing conflict points and lowering vehicle speeds.
This webinar presented research on roundabout implementation across California, including crash data analysis from the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) and public sentiment gathered through surveys and interviews.
Attendees were able to gain insights into roundabout safety performance, community perceptions, and strategies for improving public acceptance, empowering planners, and agencies to better advocate for roundabout projects statewide.

The Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System is a California Highway Patrol database that collects, processes, and stores data on fatal and injury traffic collisions occurring on California roads.
SWITRS acts as a repository for crash reports from law enforcement, allowing for statistical analysis of location, injury, and collision types.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
— Robert Brady
