Assessing the State of SoCal Mobility

The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) released its latest Transportation Trends Report, a bi-annual review of transit ridership, roadway performance, and commuting patterns across the six-county region.

Key Findings:

  • Transit ridership & vehicle miles traveled (VMT) continue recovering
  • Bus ridership leads recovery, light & heavy rail follow
  • Commuter rail is slowest to return to pre-pandemic levels
  • Automobile VMT is at 98% of pre-pandemic levels
  • About 33% of workdays are performed remotely, reducing peak travel

SCAG develops long-range regional transportation plans that include sustainable communities strategy and growth forecasts, regional transportation improvement programs, housing needs allocations, and a portion of the South Coast Air Quality Management Plan.
