Stream Stability & Scour at Highway Bridges

Posted: 3/13/2026

TRAINING: April 14, 2026 - April 17, 2026 , 6:00 AM - 1:00 PM PT

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) National Highway Institute (NHI) presents Stream Stability & Scour at Highway Bridges, a comprehensive four-day virtual training to help engineers understand and address hydraulic factors that affect bridge stability.

This course provides preventive techniques for identifying, analyzing, and calculating hydraulic conditions that may contribute to bridge scour and stream instability. It is designed to support engineers and bridge professionals responsible for maintaining the structural integrity and safety of highway bridges.

Session Highlights:

  • Identifying hydraulic factors that impact bridge stability
  • Analyzing stream stability & scour conditions
  • Techniques for calculating hydraulic forces affecting bridges
  • Strategies for preventing hydraulic-related bridge failures
  • Practical applications for bridge inspection and engineering work

Required Web-Based Training:

  • Basic Hydraulic Principles Review (WBT 135091)
  • Stream Stability Factors & Concepts (WBT 135086)
  • Scour at Highway Bridges: Concepts & Definitions (WBT 135087)

Who Should Attend:

  • Federal, state, & local highway hydraulic, structural, & geotechnical engineers
  • Bridge inspectors responsible for monitoring hydraulic-related risks
  • Engineering consultants involved in bridge design and maintenance

Participants must attend all four sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion
