Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
WEBINAR: February 27, 2026, 9:00AM - 10:30AM PT
The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is hosting Identifying High-Risk Drivers, a webinar focusing on the critical examination of driver skills testing, exploring whether current road tests effectively identify high-risk drivers before they begin driving independently.
This 90-minute presentation investigates how well existing driver assessment practices capture behavioral indicators linked to crash risk, exploring findings from the Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program (BTSCRP) Research Report 16: Predicting High-Risk Driver: Skills Examination & Scoring Guidelines, which evaluated the driver skills test used in Washington State. The study investigated how current road test scoring captures, or fails to capture, key indicators linked to crash risk and discusses implications for improving driver assessment practices.
Participants will learn to identify limitations in current driver skills examination and scoring practices and understand evidence-based methods to improve driver skills testing for identifying high-risk drivers prior to licensure.
This session is invaluable for policymakers, state licensing officials, traffic safety researchers, and driver education professionals working to strengthen driver assessment systems.
The Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program (BTSCRP) provides practical solutions to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce costs of road traffic crashes associated with unsafe behaviors, by addressing topics like distracted and impaired driving, characteristics of younger and older drivers, speeding, and law enforcement.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
— Robert Brady
