Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released the sixth and final phased rollout of design details for standard signs in the 11th Edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Announced in February, this release marks a milestone in providing transportation agencies with complete design specifications for implementing the updated standards, including design details for 213 guide signs and 8 regulatory signs, completing the comprehensive set of standard signs for the 11th Edition. Supporting vector graphics are also available in multiple formats, enabling agencies to efficiently produce compliant signage.
The phased release approach has allowed agencies to begin implementation while FHWA finalized remaining design specifications. With all sign design details now available, agencies can move forward with full adoption of the 11th Edition MUTCD standards. Additional information will continue to be posted periodically as updates become available, ultimately resulting in a completely new edition of the Standard Highway Signs publication.
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices specifies standards for how traffic signs, signals, and road markings are designed, installed, and used.
MUTCD is used by state/local agencies and private construction firms to ensure traffic control devices comply with national standards.
