Managing Roadway Drainage Systems

Posted: 3/9/2026

TRAINING: May 5, 2026, 8:30AM - 11:00AM PT

Nevada LTAP (NVLTAP) offers specialized virtual training Managing Roadway Drainage Systems, providing local agency staff and maintenance professionals the opportunity to develop essential skills for effective and efficient drainage management.

Drainage is one of the key asset classifications that transportation system owners are expected to maintain. The condition of drainage features and structures may deteriorate over time due to erosion and sediment buildup, making maintenance critical to extending the life of pavements as drainage assets control water flow along maintainable pathways. Routine inspection identifies needed maintenance and lessens the potential for flooding. This includes inspections of shoulders, ditches, pipes, and culverts.

This 2.5-hour course teaches you to manage drainage systems effectively and efficiently.

Session Highlights:

  • Managing drainage systems based on FHWA guidelines
  • Identifying drainage assets requiring inspection
  • Collecting critical information during field inspections
  • Determining appropriate maintenance response levels
  • Selecting treatments based on asset type and condition
  • Preventing minor issues from becoming major failures to reduce long-term costs

Instructor:

  • Greg Duncan — Senior Engineer at Applied Pavement Technology, Inc.
