Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
The 2026 National Tribal Road Maintenance Symposium (NTRMS) will be held May 5–7, 2026, at the Box Elder Events Center in Box Elder, South Dakota. Hosted by the Northern TTAP, this symposium brings together tribal transportation professionals to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and discuss innovations in road maintenance.
The symposium provides practical training on federal road maintenance programs, including BIA Road Maintenance Program requirements, equipment management, and available resources. Sessions cover emerging technologies, safety improvements, and budget strategies for maintaining quality infrastructure across tribal lands.
The event also creates networking opportunities where tribal programs share real-world solutions to common challenges—from harsh weather management to federal agency coordination—building a stronger professional community.
To help shape the 2026 agenda, Northern TTAP has released a Topics Questionnaire seeking input on training courses and discussion areas. Your responses will help tailor the program to address current challenges critical to tribal road maintenance.
The Northern TTAP supports tribal governments and transportation professionals through training, technical support, and knowledge sharing. Its mission is to strengthen transportation networks that serve and connect tribal communities.
Through partnerships with tribes, federal agencies, and regional organizations, Northern TTAP provides resources that enhance roadway safety, maintenance, and infrastructure management. Its programs promote innovation, collaboration, and self-determination in tribal transportation.

"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
