BIA Geospatial Resources for Tribes

Posted: 2/2/2026

WEBINAR: February 19, 2026, 1:00PM - 2:00PM PT

The Alaska Tribal Technical Assistance Program (AKTTAP) is presenting a webinar focusing on Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Geospatial Resources available to the state's federally recognized tribes. This session provides tribal communities with information on powerful mapping and analysis tools that support self-governance and resource management.

Through the BIA's Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) program, tribes gain access to professional-grade geospatial software. These tools empower tribal governments to map culturally significant sites, plan community fire protection, document natural resources, and manage critical land and boundary information—all essential for effective tribal governance and resource stewardship.

Beyond software access, the ELA program provides comprehensive support to help tribes succeed. Participating tribes receive geospatial training through self-paced courses and instructor-led classes, ongoing technical support, software maintenance, and discounts on additional tools. This support structure enables tribal staff to develop expertise and build long-term geospatial capabilities that strengthen decision-making and resource management for their communities.

  • Martin Weiser, Native Village of Minto, Geospatial Coordinator for BIA Alaska
