Policy Update: Prohibition on Procurement/Operation of UAS

Posted: 12/18/2025

Effective December 22, 2025, the US Office of Management & Budget (OMB) has prohibited the procurement or operation of covered Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or Drones.

Section 1825 of the American Security Drone Act of 2023 (Public Law 118-31) prohibits federal-funded contracts and grants from expenditure on or operation of UAS/Drones and their components from covered entities such as DJI, Autel, and others.

How do I determine if a UAS or Drone is manufactured or assembled by a covered entity?

In order to determine if a UAS or drone and their components are manufactured or assembled by a covered entity on the consolidated screening list, please search the database by typing the name, fuzzy name, address, source, and/or country. If the search returns the UAS or Drone, it is prohibited from operation if federal funds were used to procure it, and federal funds may not be used in the future to purchase the UAS or Drone and their components.

Who is the OMB?

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) serves the U.S. President by overseeing the implementation of his vision across the Executive Branch.
