Clearing the Lane: New Tools for Reliable Bus Service

Posted: 12/18/2025

WEBINAR: January 20, 2026, 1:00PM - 2:30PM PT

The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is hosting a free webinar on “Clearing the Lane: New Tools for Reliable Bus Service.”

Public transit agencies across the country are under pressure to improve on-time performance, maximize existing resources, and enhance customer experience for bus riders. One persistent barrier to reliable bus service is the prevalence of parked cars that illegally block bus stops and dedicated bus lanes. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus are using AI-automated bus camera systems to issue parking citations.

This session will provide an overview of Santa Monica’s Automated Bus Lane Enforcement program and Metro’s Bus Lane Enforcement program, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and lessons learned for each initiative.

This webinar is part of SCAG's "Toolbox Tuesdays" program, which provides training on a range of practical skills and knowledge for local planning practitioners, including training in the use of technology and education for practical approaches to timely issues
