Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
WEBINAR: March 3, 2026, 6:00AM - 7:00AM PT
The West Virginia LTAP (WV LTAP) is hosting a free 1-hour webinar to review visual cues for recognizing roadside tree hazards and the need for their systematic inspection.
Roadside trees provide a number of positive aspects, including aesthetics and environmental benefits. However, trees also bring concerns for road agencies (in the U.S., trees are the most frequently struck roadside fixed object). Roadside trees can also fall and strike road users, or they may fall onto the roadway and be struck by motor vehicles.
Recognizing the potential for tree falls is of interest to road agency maintenance personnel at all levels of government.
This webinar focuses on those trees with a structural defect creating the potential to fail and fall onto the roadway. It is ideal for state and local road agency maintenance personnel, especially those responsible for vegetation management.
Dr. Ron Eck, Professor Emeritus, serves as director of WV LTAP where he's developed and/or taught a variety of traffic engineering, safety, and roadway design workshops and courses.
Dr. Eck is a member of the TRB Institute of Transportation Engineers, the Association of Pedestrian & Bicycle Professionals, and is a well-respected expert in the areas of ADA accessibility, bike & ped issues, and traffic engineering.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
— Robert Brady
