Incorporating Unbonded Post-Tensioning in Concrete Bridges

Posted: 11/14/2025

WEBINAR: November 19, 2025, 10:00AM - 11:30AM PT

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is hosting a 90-minute webinar to explore the analytical and experimental evaluation of post-tensioned concrete bridge elements, including both flexural and shear behavior, and provide design recommendations for the use of unbonded tendons.

Unbonded post-tensioning offers opportunities for efficient, durable bridge design but presents challenges in understanding structural behavior and design application. Presenters will discuss how their findings can be applied in practice to enhance the safety, reliability, and performance of bridge structures.

Webinar Agenda:

  • Shear behavior & design
  • Flexural behavior & design
  • AASHTO specifications for unbonded post-tensioning
  • Q&A Session (moderated by Washington DOT's Richard Brice)

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the behavior of structures incorporating unbonded tendons
  • Determine the flexure & shear strength of structures incorporating unbonded tendons
  • Implement the findings of research on members with unbonded strands into practice

Complimentary registration is available for employees of TRB sponsors, standing technical committee chairs, involved CRP panel members, tribal government employees, media, congressional staff, & TRB or National Academies staff.
