Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional

National Center for Rural Road Safety Training

The National Center for Rural Road Safety (NCRRS) just wrapped-up delivery of core training modules for its Road Safety Champion Program (RSCP), a nationally recognized certificate program designed to build a knowledgeable, safety-minded workforce responsible for operating, maintaining, and designing local roads.

RSCP includes seven core training modules PLUS specialized "career-focused pathways". Once participants complete the seven core modules and one pathway, they're awarded a Road Safety Champion Program Certificate.

The good news: starting October 7th, 2025, NCRRS will begin hosting RSCP career pathway training modules online. The full list of career pathways programs is shown below:

RSCP: Worker Safety: Gain an overview of potential hazards for workers, explore measures for improving worker safety, and learn the hierarchy of safety controls.
Tuesday, October 21, 11am – 1pm PT

RSCP: Road Safety Audits: Gain a deeper understanding of road safety audits, including the role of a first responder, and how a first responder can contribute to the audit.
Wednesday, October 22, 11 – 1pm PT

RSCP: Take Action Now – Maintaining Safety: This course is a deep look at maintenance safety solutions that construction and maintenance personnel can implement daily.
Tuesday, October 28, 11am – 1pm PT

RSCP: Evaluation of the Legal Landscape Impacting First Responders: Examine legal, procedural, and operational issues that directly affect the work of first responders.
Wednesday, October 29, 11 – 1pm PT

RSCP: Countermeasures for Road Safety: This training will provide an overview of safety countermeasures applicable to local roads with an emphasis on low-cost practices.

RSCP: Integrating Public Health and Transportation to Enhance Road User Safety: Explore the relationship between public health and transportation.

RSCP: Public Health Data to Inform Injury Analysis and Monitoring: Learn how public health data can enhance the diagnosis, prediction, and monitoring of traffic injuries.

RSCP: Overview of Local Road Safety Plans: Gain an overview of Local Road Safety Plans, including how they support safety efforts, and how to develop one.

RSCP: Overview of Data and Tools for Safety: Learn about the different types of data, data challenges for local agencies, and the various tools available for applying the data.

RSCP: Partnerships for Safety Program Implementation: Learn how best-practice public health models can improve the reach and effectiveness of traffic safety programming.

RSCP: Crash Reporting: Learn how the collection and reporting of crash data can reduce severe crashes and how such reporting benefits from cross-coordination.
