Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
WEBINAR: September 17, 2025, 12:00PM - 1:00PM PT
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is hosting a free webinar to discuss strategies to improve the safety of drivers and pedestrians near transit tracks and trains.
FTA will provide a high-level overview of available rail grade crossing data and resources, followed by a presentation from LA Metro on the use of photo enforcement technology at rail grade crossings to enhance safety.
Participants will also hear from Rock Region Metro on the integration of Positive Train Control to reduce incidents at intersections and improve operational safety, and from Operation Lifesaver, who will share new resources for transit agencies and examples from transit agency grants on rail safety education and outreach strategies.
This webinar is part of the FTA's See Tracks? Think Train® Week, which is provides a concentrated series of rail safety education focusing attention on the importance of making safe choices when driving or walking near railroad tracks and trains.
Positive Train Control (PTC) is an automatic safety system mandated in the U.S. to prevent serious human-error accidents like train-to-train collisions, derailments from excessive speed, and unauthorized movements in work zones or through misaligned switches.
PTC uses GPS, wireless communication, and onboard computers to monitor train location, speed, and track conditions, to automatically applying brakes if a train operator doesn't respond to warnings.
"There can be no doubt that the transportation sector is the most critical sector of our economy."
