Key highlights on regulations, policies, and program funding for the transportation professional
The Draft 2027 Federal Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (FSTIP) is now available for public review on the Caltrans website.
Caltrans prepared the Draft 2027 FSTIP in coordination with the metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and regional transportation planning agencies in California. Federal mandate requires the FSTIP to be updated every two years.
The Draft 2027 FSTIP includes phases of capital and non-capital transportation projects prioritized to receive federal funding under Titles 23 and 49 of the United States Code during federal fiscal years 2027-30. The Draft 2027 FSTIP also includes regionally significant projects regardless of the funding source.
Each of the state’s 18 MPOs prepares a Federal Transportation Improvement Program (FTIP), which includes federal, state, and local transportation projects within its boundary. These FTIPs are included in the FSTIP for reference.
The Draft 2027 FSTIP is available for public review and comment through
October 30, 2026. Please submit your comments via email at FSTIP@dot.ca.gov.
The Federal Transportation Improvement Program is a federally mandated, four-year program of all surface transportation projects that will receive federal funding or are subject to a federally required action
Projects in the FTIP include highway improvements, transit, rail and bus facilities, HOV lanes, high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes, signal synchronization, intersection improvements, freeway ramps, and more.
