Secrets From a Transformative Regional Trail

Posted: 10/19/2026

WEBINAR: October 21, 2026, 12:00PM - 1:00PM PT

The Fall Line Trail: Secrets From a Transformative Regional Trail in Richmond explores how Virginia's Fall Line Trail moved quickly from concept to construction in less than ten years thanks to unprecedented regional cooperation and funding, passionate and relentless community champions, the might of Virginia DOT's construction prowess, and enthusiastic buy-in from localities who realize the transformative power of this 43-mile trail.

Five miles of the trail opened this summer, and major segments will come on-line in 2026 and 2027 - and the feasibility study was only published in 2020! More importantly, local jurisdictions are actively creating connections to the trail and building trailheads, and everyone from bike club riders to neighborhood dog walkers are flocking to the facility.

Yes, it's a trail success story on an uncommonly short timeline. It is also a testament to the transformative power of trails to build community, spur development, serve people's daily transportation needs, and capture the history and contemporary culture of an entire region.

This webinar, presented by the Association of Pedestrian & Bicycle Professionals (APBP), will reveal secrets from a few of the major players in the story - the strategy, the plans, the vision, and the path to implementation.

Presenters:

  • Brantley Tyndall, Director, BikeWalk RVA
  • Emmy Richards, Director of Parks & Recreation, Town of Ashland
  • Liz McAdory, District Planning Manager, Virginia DOT
  • Jeff Ciabotti, Trails & Greenways Practice Lead, Toole Design (Moderator)
