This 1-hour webinar showcases a “Decide & Provide” approach to transportation planning that is vision-led, access-focused, and uncertainty-savvy.

The world, and transportation with it, are changing in ways that are difficult to predict. However, our transportation planning and development tools rely upon forecast-led paradigm of “Predict & Provide.”

In combination with car-centric performance standards, a Predict & Provide approach can result in over-provision of highway capacity and under-provision of active transportation infrastructure, making it more difficult to meet community goals for safety and livability.

While drawing upon trip generation data associated with previous land-use developments, this new approach also considers the influence of development design and the need to accommodate uncertainty in judging what transport provision is suitable for supporting access to employment, goods, services and opportunities for the communities concerned.
